Baybayin is the indigenous script of the Philippines that has made a resurgence as a way to express Filipino cultural identity. The Baybayin Keyboard lets you type baybayin characters on your iPhone or iPad. It functions seamlessly as an alternate system keyboard that can be used within apps such as Messages, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
The Baybayin Keyboard includes two keyboard layouts: Traditional and Modernized. The Modernized layout is laid out similarly to your QWERTY keyboard so you can type faster. It also includes modernized characters for RA, ZA, VA, FA, and JA, as well as alternatives for I and U vowels.
Pros and cons of Baybayin Keyboard app for iPhone and iPad
Baybayin Keyboard app good for
I really enjoy using this keyboard. It would be really great it it had # in it and other filipino specific emojis but great still. And its free!!! ᜀᜐ᜴ᜆᜒᜄ᜴!᜶
Thank you so much for developing this. One of the best ways for Filipinos to reconnect to their roots is to learn the Baybayin. Using the keyboard makes it so much easier to do that. An observation though, once installed, whenever I open the app it crashes. Not that important.
To use keyboard, download the app, then go to Settings->General->Keyboards->Add Keyboards->Look for and tap "Baybayin" under the third-party keyboards section. This app is definitely a "game changer," to quote another reviewer. Given how "tech-y" people are, Filipinos and non-Filipinos can embrace this script through their phone and practice using it with ease and convenience. Not only is it fun to use on major social media sites, but its also educational. The presence of the Romanized equivalent above each symbol on the keyboard is very helpful for those of us wanting to learn Baybayin with a little bit of help. My main complaint, however, is that the app itself does not open. It appears as if it is loading a PDF document--with the loading symbol n the middle of a grey background--but after a couple of minutes, it just crashes. Im using an iPhone 5. Overall, I love the idea and hope the developer can expand on this in the future. Youve got something great going on here. Many thanks for this app.
